This short online course is designed for anyone working in health and social care who may support individuals who display pica behaviours.
Pica is a condition where a person eats or attempts to eat non-food substances, which can place them at significant risk of harm. This course helps you understand what pica is, why it happens, and how to recognise the signs and risks early.
You will also learn how to provide safe, person-centred support, reduce environmental risks, and respond appropriately if concerns arise. The course covers key topics including risk assessment, safeguarding, reporting procedures, and what to do in an emergency.
By the end of the training, you will feel more confident in identifying potential pica behaviours and supporting individuals safely, respectfully, and in line with good practice in health and social care settings.
